Colour and Creative Manager at Jotun for Middle East, India and Africa, Rana Khadra gives us three tips on how best to utilise paint this year.
Re-use, refresh
With a need to change one’s environment, people are resorting to big changes with minimal effort, cost and waste. Paint is a good way to do that. Don’t throw away old furniture, paint it. You can paint a chair, a cupboard or a door and you’ll have a whole new piece. Don’t make too many changes, a fresh coat of paint in a new colour combined with a couple of accessories can make a huge difference in no time.
Feel good, be yourself
Home is the one space that we have full control over. Make sure it makes you feel good. Instead of leaving yout house to go to a place that makes you feel good, make your home that space. Colours have an immediate impact on the way we feel. Pick a colour that makes you happy, and represents you.
Express, stand out
Don’t be afraid to be different, paint the unexpected. Paint a ceiling or half a door, paint a full room in purple (slate lavender), or even half a wall. Highlight an area by mixing colours, or create complete harmony by using a single colour in different shades.

This Trend is Set to Continue
The interior, in terms of furniture, lighting, art and textiles, is the opportunity for the space to declare its character; to enhance the architecture while creating a statement in colour, form, flow and comfort. It is a subtle and skilled exercise to calibrate and curate the right pieces and to understand the dynamic of how choices best interact.
As a practice we seek out quality – designs with pedigree and longevity as well as inherent style.
While the architectural form is both the statement and the vessel, it is the choice of interior finishes, and the superior quality thereof, that defines the everyday. With an emphasis on materials that deliver a sensory experience – both visual and tactile – RMA favours the honesty and longevity of stone, wood, steel and brass, glass and stucco walls.
The right combination of materials, used wisely and well, lays the foundation for every decorating scheme.
